“The Brits of the Raj had a pithy culinary warning: Khubberdar the caviar. Maybe we should coin a similar caveat for anyone venturing to eat North Indian khana in Chennai.
For example, there’s an eatery in Chennai, Velmurugan Meals (slogan: Specialising in North Indian food), that offers some rather alarming delicacies, such as Malai Gupta and Gopi Manchurian?.
I say better to err on the side of caution and retreat to Varalakshmi Tiffin Home, which offers nothing more sinister than Sholay Bhature.
Or, better still, stick with the uthapam.”
